Charlie Bone goes to Bloors Academy for the talented and the endowed, who are called the Children of the Red King. A couple of days before the start of the semester, all the animals in town mysteriously disappear. When Charlie goes back to school most people naturally suspect Charlie due to all the mysterious happenings that occur around him. With the help of a girl named Nira, Charlie manages to find his friend’s pets. It was really exciting when Charlie met Nira and started having contact with her. She could write messages to him without being there and she could hear him talking back. Rembrandt, Billy’s mouse, tells them a small quiver in the earth, unfelt by human beings, scared them all into hiding. At Bloors, in the study hall for the Children of the Red King, a shadow has somehow moved out of its place in the painting of the Red King, but Charlie is one of the few that notices. Will Charlie find out what is going on before it’s too late or is it the end for Charlie Bone?
